Valuing your number

How much is my mobile number worth?

Understand the difference between an estimated value, your asking price and a genuine sale—and use each for the right decision.

Your mobile number is worth what a buyer is prepared to pay for it in a real transaction. An automated valuation can provide a starting point, but it cannot promise a buyer or a sale. On PYN, you can use the suggested asking price or choose your own.

Three prices that mean different things

TermWhat it tells youWhat it does not prove
Indicative valuationAn estimate based on the information and method available at the time. That somebody will buy at that price.
Asking priceThe amount a seller is currently requesting. That the number has sold, or that similar numbers achieve the same amount.
Completed sale priceThe amount paid in a genuine completed transaction.A fixed value for every similar number.

Keep these separate when researching your number. A competitor’s advertised price can help you understand positioning, but an unsold listing is not a completed-sale comparable. A promotional price may reflect a temporary offer or a different product.

What makes a useful starting estimate?

Look at the complete pattern: the longest repeating run, repeated blocks, sequences, meaningful endings and the rhythm of the whole number. A small feature should not overshadow a long, difficult-to-remember remainder. Equally, a repeated group should not be missed just because it crosses a visual space.

PYN’s current automated starting estimates use PYN pattern and pricing rules. The result is indicative. Number verification, current network and the practical transfer arrangements are separate checks; the fact that a number receives a valuation does not prove ownership or readiness to transfer.

How to use comparisons responsibly

  • Compare similar patterns in similar positions, rather than matching one attractive digit.
  • Check whether the other number is merely advertised or has genuinely sold.
  • Note the date, transfer method and any material differences.
  • Separate the number price from a SIM tariff, bundled credit or other services.
  • Look at a group of relevant examples rather than choosing the single highest price.

AI can help describe a pattern or organise a comparison. A model agreeing with a price does not turn that price into market evidence. If an explanation makes a claim about rarity, demand or sales, ask what supports it.

Choose an asking price you can explain

Start with why a particular buyer might choose your number over the alternatives. A clean repeating ending may suit a business contact line; a year ending may matter most to a smaller group of buyers. Neither automatically justifies a fixed premium.

Decide how quickly you want to sell and how flexible you are. A higher asking price may need a longer wait and a more specific buyer. A lower price does not guarantee a quick sale. Offers, where enabled, can provide useful feedback, but an offer that never completes is still not a sale.

Consider the selling fee and your expected net proceeds when setting your price. Check the current PYN terms and the information shown during listing rather than assuming the advertised price is the amount you will receive.

Real sales should improve the picture

Over time, genuine completed transactions should inform PYN’s pricing review. Useful records include the pattern, final amount paid, date and relevant transfer details. Refunds, cancellations, internal tests and artificial low-price purchases need to be identified so they do not distort the evidence.

A single sale is useful context, not a market-wide rule. Until there are enough comparable transactions, a narrow-looking range can imply more certainty than the evidence supports. We should be open about that uncertainty.

Start with a valuation, keep control of the price

Value your number to see an indicative starting point. You can then proceed with a listing and choose your asking price. PYN reviews submissions before publication. If the estimate does not fit the pattern you see, explain that in your listing details rather than treating the automated result as a promise.
