Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 1 September 2026
These Terms & Conditions govern the use of pickyournumber.co.uk and the buying, selling, listing, valuation and transfer services provided through Pick Your Number.
Please read these Terms carefully before creating an account, listing a mobile number or placing an order.
1. About Pick Your Number
Pick Your Number (“PYN”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is a UK-based marketplace for memorable UK mobile numbers.
Pick Your Number is a trading name operated by Nicky Crancher.
Email: hello@pickyournumber.co.uk
Website: pickyournumber.co.uk
Business address: Pick Your Number, 203 Capstone Road, Bournemouth, BH8 8SA
Our platform enables sellers to advertise eligible mobile numbers and enables buyers to purchase and arrange the transfer of those numbers using the UK mobile-number porting process.
Unless a listing specifically states that it is sold directly by Pick Your Number, the mobile service associated with a listing is controlled by a third-party seller and PYN facilitates the transaction and transfer process.
2. Important terminology
In these Terms:
Buyer means a person purchasing a listed mobile number through PYN.
Seller means the person or business listing a mobile number through PYN.
Number means the UK mobile telephone number associated with the mobile service being offered for transfer.
PAC means a Porting Authorisation Code issued by a mobile network/provider and used to transfer a mobile number to another provider.
Transfer or Port means moving the mobile number from the seller’s existing mobile service/provider to a service controlled by the buyer.
PAC Ready is a PYN verification status defined in section 7.
PYN Transaction means the process beginning with a buyer placing an order and ending in completion, cancellation or refund.
3. The nature of mobile numbers
References on PYN to “buying”, “selling” or “owning” a mobile number are used in the ordinary commercial sense.
Telephone numbers form part of the UK’s regulated numbering system. A seller is therefore not required to establish legal ownership of the digits themselves.
Instead, the seller must establish to PYN’s satisfaction that they legitimately control the mobile service using the advertised number and have the authority and ability to obtain a PAC and transfer that number.
A buyer is purchasing the benefit of having the advertised mobile number transferred to a mobile service under the buyer’s control.
4. PYN’s marketplace role
PYN provides the marketplace, verification systems, transaction administration, transfer workflow, dispute process and associated services.
Where a listing states Sold by Pick Your Number, PYN is also the seller of that listing.
For third-party listings, PYN facilitates the transaction between buyer and seller but does not operate the mobile network from which or to which a number is transferred.
Mobile networks remain responsible for their own services, PAC systems, porting systems, account eligibility and network operation.
PYN cannot guarantee that a mobile network will never experience delays, errors or outages.
5. Private Sellers and Business Sellers
Sellers must accurately identify whether they are acting:
- privately, outside a trade or business; or
- as a trader/business.
PYN may request additional information where necessary to establish a seller’s status.
Where the seller is a business, applicable consumer rights may apply to the buyer’s underlying transaction with that seller.
Where the seller is genuinely a private individual acting outside a business, some statutory consumer rights that apply to purchases from traders may not apply to the underlying buyer-to-seller transaction.
This does not remove any rights the buyer has against PYN in respect of services PYN itself provides.
The seller type should be displayed to the buyer where relevant before purchase.
6. Accounts
You must provide accurate and current information when creating or using a PYN account.
You must not:
- impersonate another person;
- create an account using false information;
- allow another person to misuse your account;
- attempt to circumvent PYN verification procedures; or
- use PYN for fraud, unlawful number transfers or other unlawful activity.
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
PYN may require additional authentication before sensitive actions including PAC submission, PAC reveal, changing payout information or completing a high-value transaction.
7. Seller verification and PAC Ready
A seller must not list a number that they do not legitimately control or do not have authority to transfer.
PYN may verify control by sending a one-time verification code by SMS to the advertised mobile number.
The seller must successfully complete this verification when requested.
PYN may also carry out a current-network or carrier check and retain the result as part of the listing and transaction audit record.
PAC Ready
A listing displaying PAC Ready means:
The associated mobile service is active, PYN has verified that the seller controls the advertised number, and the seller has agreed to obtain and provide a valid PAC following a completed sale.
PAC Ready does not necessarily mean that a PAC has already been generated.
PAC Ready also does not guarantee that a future transfer cannot be affected by a network/provider issue outside PYN’s reasonable control.
8. Seller warranties
By submitting or maintaining a listing, the seller confirms that:
- the advertised number is accurate;
- they legitimately control the mobile service using that number;
- they have authority to obtain and supply a PAC;
- the number has not already been sold or committed to another person;
- they are not aware of any restriction that would make the transfer unlawful or impossible;
- information supplied about the number is truthful;
- they will keep the service active and capable of transfer while required for an active PYN transaction;
- they will not deliberately cancel, transfer, reclaim or otherwise interfere with the number after it has been sold through PYN;
- they will cooperate with reasonable verification and dispute requests; and
- they will inform PYN promptly if circumstances change.
Any charges, contractual commitments, outstanding balances or termination consequences between a seller and their existing mobile provider remain the seller’s responsibility unless expressly agreed otherwise.
9. Listings and descriptions
PYN may classify listings using descriptions such as Premium, Luxury, Ultra Premium, Clean Number, Previously Used, memorable patterns and star ratings.
Such classifications are PYN marketplace assessments and do not constitute guarantees of future resale value.
Any valuation is an opinion or estimate rather than a guarantee that a number will sell for a particular amount.
PYN may refuse, suspend or remove a listing where we reasonably believe it is inaccurate, fraudulent, unverifiable, unlawful or creates an unacceptable risk.
10. Prices and PYN fees
The buyer will be shown the price payable before placing an order.
Any mandatory buyer charges will be disclosed before payment.
For marketplace sellers, PYN’s standard marketplace commission is currently 15% of the completed sale price, unless a different rate has been expressly agreed or disclosed to the seller before the listing or transaction is accepted.
A change in PYN’s standard commission will not retrospectively change the commission applying to an already completed sale.
The seller’s expected proceeds should be displayed or otherwise made clear before the seller becomes committed to the transaction.
11. Placing an order
Before placing an order, the buyer must check:
- the mobile number;
- listing description;
- price;
- seller information presented by PYN;
- transfer requirements; and
- any other material information shown on the listing or checkout.
The checkout must make clear when clicking the final payment button creates an obligation to pay.
After successful payment or payment authorisation, PYN will normally reserve the listing so that it cannot simultaneously be sold to another buyer.
An order may still be cancelled where payment verification fails, fraud checks are not satisfied, the seller cannot complete verification or the transfer cannot reasonably proceed.
12. Starting the transfer process immediately
Most buyers purchase a number because they want the transfer process to begin promptly.
Where required, a consumer buyer will be asked to expressly request that PYN begin providing the relevant service during the statutory cancellation period.
Where applicable, the buyer will also be asked to acknowledge that their statutory cancellation rights may be affected once the service has been fully performed.
Nothing in these Terms removes statutory cancellation rights where the law requires them to remain available.
13. Seller notification after sale
Once a qualifying order is placed, PYN may notify the seller by:
- email;
- SMS;
- dashboard notification; or
- another contact method supplied by the seller.
Unless PYN agrees otherwise:
The seller should acknowledge the sale within 48 hours.
The seller must provide a valid PAC within 5 calendar days of being notified that seller action is required.
PYN may send reminders during this period.
If the seller fails to act, PYN may cancel the transaction, refund the buyer where appropriate, suspend the listing or seller account, and record the failure against the seller’s account.
Repeated failures may result in removal from PYN.
14. PAC submission
The seller should submit the PAC through the secure PYN transfer system provided for the relevant order.
The seller must not intentionally provide:
- a false PAC;
- an expired PAC;
- a PAC belonging to another number; or
- a PAC which they know cannot be used for the agreed transfer.
PYN may store the PAC and associated information for the purpose of carrying out the transfer, resolving disputes, preventing fraud and maintaining appropriate transaction records.
Access to PAC information will be restricted in accordance with PYN’s security processes.
15. PAC release to the Buyer
A PAC will not normally be displayed publicly.
When the transfer is ready, the buyer will be required to access their PYN account and deliberately select Reveal PAC or an equivalent function.
Before revealing the PAC, PYN may warn the buyer that revealing transfer credentials moves the transaction into a materially different stage and can affect the way a change-of-mind cancellation is handled.
PYN will record the date and time at which the PAC is revealed.
A buyer must not disclose or use the PAC except for the legitimate transfer associated with the PYN transaction.
16. Buyer’s transfer responsibilities
After receiving the PAC, the buyer is responsible for providing it to the mobile provider to which they want the number transferred.
The buyer is responsible for:
- having or obtaining a suitable receiving mobile service;
- ensuring the receiving provider accepts mobile-number ports;
- providing accurate information to their receiving provider;
- submitting the PAC before it expires;
- following reasonable instructions from PYN and the receiving provider; and
- informing PYN promptly of a transfer problem.
PYN may ask the buyer which network/provider they intend to transfer the number to.
This information may be retained as part of the transaction evidence.
17. Transfer verification
PYN may independently verify the progress of a transfer.
Verification methods may include:
- sending an OTP to the purchased number;
- checking the current mobile carrier/network using a third-party lookup service;
- comparing the pre-transfer and post-transfer network;
- checking whether the seller can still receive verification messages;
- considering information supplied by the buyer or seller; and
- considering evidence supplied by a mobile provider.
Carrier/network lookup information can occasionally be delayed or incomplete and will not necessarily be treated as conclusive by itself.
PYN may consider several pieces of evidence together when determining whether a transfer has completed.
18. Buyer verification after transfer
Following the expected transfer, PYN may send an OTP to the purchased number.
Where the buyer successfully receives and submits that OTP through their authenticated PYN account, PYN may treat this as strong evidence that the buyer controls the transferred number.
The buyer should complete reasonable transfer-verification requests promptly.
19. Buyer does not complete verification
A buyer cannot indefinitely prevent transaction completion merely by failing to respond to a verification request.
If the buyer does not complete final verification, PYN may:
- send reminders;
- carry out a current-network check;
- compare the network with the seller’s original network and the buyer’s declared destination;
- consider other available transfer evidence; and
- notify the buyer that the transfer appears to have completed.
Where PYN has reasonable evidence that the transfer completed, the buyer will be given a reasonable opportunity to report a genuine problem.
If no credible dispute is raised within the period stated in that notification, which will normally be at least 48 hours, PYN may treat the transfer as completed.
20. PYN contractual cancellation policy before PAC reveal
In addition to any statutory rights that may apply, PYN’s normal contractual policy is intended to give buyers additional protection before transfer credentials are released.
Where the buyer changes their mind before the PAC has been revealed to them, the buyer may request cancellation.
Provided the transfer has not otherwise become irreversible and there is no evidence of fraud or misuse, PYN will normally cancel the transaction and provide a full refund of the amount paid by the buyer.
This can apply even where the seller has already submitted the PAC to PYN, provided it has not been revealed to the buyer.
21. Cancellation after PAC reveal
Once a PAC has been revealed, PYN cannot simply assume that the buyer has not copied, stored, submitted or otherwise used it.
A change-of-mind cancellation after PAC reveal will therefore not be processed automatically.
PYN may place the transaction into a cancellation/security review while establishing whether:
- the number remains with the seller’s network;
- the seller still controls the number;
- a port has been initiated;
- the PAC remains capable of being used; and
- the seller’s number can reasonably be protected from an unauthorised transfer.
Where a statutory cancellation right applies, this section does not remove that right.
Where PYN began supplying a service during a statutory cancellation period at the buyer’s express request, PYN may charge an amount proportionate to the service already provided where the law permits.
22. Cancellation after a completed transfer
Once the purchased number has successfully transferred to a mobile service controlled by the buyer, PYN will not normally reverse the original transaction solely because the buyer has changed their mind.
PYN does not operate an automatic “transfer the number back to the seller” refund process.
If a buyer no longer wants a successfully transferred number, they may be able to list it for a new sale through PYN, subject to the normal seller requirements.
This section does not affect statutory rights where the service was not provided as agreed, was materially misrepresented or where another legal remedy applies.
23. Seller unable to provide a valid PAC
If the seller cannot provide a valid PAC within the required period, PYN may:
- give the seller a short opportunity to correct the problem;
- require a replacement PAC;
- investigate the circumstances;
- cancel the transaction; and/or
- refund the buyer.
Seller payment will not become due merely because a PAC was attempted if the seller has failed to provide the agreed transferable number.
PYN may restrict or suspend a seller whose repeated failures create an unacceptable risk to buyers.
24. Transfer disputes
If a buyer claims that a PAC has failed or that a transfer has not completed, the transaction may be placed into Transfer Disputed status.
PYN may ask the buyer to provide evidence such as:
- an error message;
- correspondence from the receiving network;
- a support/reference number;
- screenshots; or
- other reasonably available information.
PYN may ask the seller to obtain information or a replacement PAC from the seller’s existing provider.
PYN may also carry out its own network or transfer verification.
PYN will consider the available evidence from both sides rather than automatically deciding in favour of either the buyer or seller.
Failure by a party to cooperate with reasonable evidence requests may be taken into account when PYN determines the operational status of a transaction, although nothing in this provision removes statutory rights.
25. Transaction completion
PYN may consider a transaction complete where there is reasonable evidence that the purchased number has transferred to the buyer.
Evidence may include:
- successful buyer OTP verification;
- a carrier/network change matching the buyer’s intended provider;
- provider confirmation;
- buyer confirmation;
- loss of the seller’s previous service; or
- other reliable transfer evidence.
PYN does not require every possible form of evidence to be present where the evidence available is reasonably sufficient.
26. Seller payout
Seller payout becomes eligible only after the transaction reaches the appropriate completion stage.
PYN may withhold or delay payout where reasonably necessary because:
- transfer verification remains outstanding;
- a dispute has been opened;
- fraud is suspected;
- the seller has breached these Terms;
- the payment provider has placed the transaction under review; or
- PYN is required to do so by law.
PYN will not arbitrarily withhold a seller’s money after a transaction has been satisfactorily completed.
Payments and payouts may be processed by third-party payment service providers and may also be subject to their applicable terms and compliance requirements.
27. Chargebacks and payment disputes
Buyers retain any lawful rights available through their card issuer or payment provider.
However, a buyer must not knowingly make a false payment dispute or chargeback claim.
If a payment dispute occurs, PYN may provide relevant transaction evidence to our payment provider, card scheme, bank or other person involved in resolving the dispute.
Evidence may include:
- payment authentication information;
- Terms acceptance records;
- seller verification;
- OTP verification;
- network checks;
- PAC submission;
- PAC reveal records;
- login/session information where lawfully retained;
- buyer and seller communications; and
- transfer-completion evidence.
Where a seller’s breach, fraud or misrepresentation causes a loss, chargeback or refund, PYN may withhold amounts otherwise due to that seller or seek recovery of reasonable direct losses from the seller where legally permitted.
Where a buyer knowingly obtains the transferred number and subsequently makes a fraudulent claim that it was not received, PYN may suspend the buyer’s account, challenge the payment dispute and take appropriate steps to recover money lawfully owed.
28. Fraud and unauthorised transfers
PYN may suspend, cancel or investigate any transaction where we reasonably suspect:
- stolen SIM cards;
- account takeover;
- unauthorised number transfers;
- false seller verification;
- payment fraud;
- identity fraud;
- fabricated transfer disputes;
- money laundering;
- misuse of PAC information; or
- another unlawful activity.
PYN may request additional verification before continuing the transaction.
Where required or appropriate by law, PYN may cooperate with mobile providers, payment providers, regulators or law-enforcement authorities.
29. Seller tax and reporting information
Sellers are responsible for their own tax affairs.
Where PYN is legally required to collect, verify, retain or report information about marketplace sellers or transactions, sellers agree to provide the information reasonably required for PYN to meet those obligations.
Failure to provide information required by law may result in selling or payout facilities being restricted.
30. Security
PYN uses reasonable technical and organisational measures intended to protect accounts, transaction information and transfer credentials.
However, no online system can be guaranteed to be completely immune from attack, outage or unauthorised access.
Users must promptly notify PYN if they believe:
- their account has been compromised;
- a PAC has been disclosed improperly;
- a transfer is being attempted without authorisation; or
- suspicious activity has occurred.
PYN may temporarily restrict an account or transaction while investigating a security concern.
31. Personal information
PYN processes personal information in accordance with its Privacy Policy.
Information may be processed where necessary for:
- account operation;
- seller verification;
- number verification;
- payment administration;
- PAC transfer;
- fraud prevention;
- disputes and chargebacks;
- legal and regulatory obligations; and
- customer support.
The Privacy Policy provides further information about how PYN handles personal information and applicable rights.
32. Communications
By using PYN, users agree that transaction-related communications may be sent using contact information associated with their account.
These communications may include:
- verification codes;
- sale notifications;
- PAC requests;
- transfer reminders;
- security warnings;
- dispute notices; and
- payment or refund information.
Transactional communications are separate from optional marketing communications.
33. Website availability
PYN aims to keep the website and transaction systems available, but continuous uninterrupted access cannot be guaranteed.
We may temporarily suspend functionality for:
- maintenance;
- security;
- technical failures;
- provider outages;
- emergency work; or
- legal or regulatory reasons.
Where an outage affects an active transfer, PYN will take reasonable steps to minimise the resulting disruption.
34. Our responsibility
Nothing in these Terms excludes or restricts liability where doing so would be unlawful.
In particular, nothing in these Terms excludes statutory consumer rights or liability that cannot legally be excluded.
PYN is responsible for providing its own services with the standard required by applicable law.
PYN is not responsible for losses caused solely by matters outside our reasonable control, such as an independent mobile provider’s network outage, provided PYN has otherwise fulfilled its own obligations.
For users acting wholly in the course of business, additional limitations of liability may apply where separately agreed.
35. User responsibility for losses
A user may be responsible for reasonable direct losses caused to PYN by that user’s fraud, deliberate misuse of the platform or material breach of these Terms, where recovery of those losses is permitted by law.
Nothing in this section requires a consumer to compensate PYN for losses for which the consumer is not legally responsible.
36. Suspension and termination
PYN may suspend or terminate an account where reasonably necessary because of:
- fraud or suspected fraud;
- repeated seller failures;
- attempted unauthorised transfers;
- chargeback abuse;
- abusive or threatening conduct;
- material breach of these Terms;
- legal or regulatory obligations; or
- risks to other users or the PYN platform.
Where appropriate, we will consider whether a lesser restriction would be sufficient.
Suspension does not remove obligations arising from transactions already entered into.
37. Changes to these Terms
PYN may update these Terms when our service, technology, payment arrangements or legal obligations change.
Changes will apply from the date stated in the updated Terms.
We will not use a later version of these Terms to retrospectively remove rights that had already arisen under a completed transaction.
For an active transaction, the version accepted when the transaction was entered into will normally remain part of that transaction unless a change is required by law or the parties expressly agree otherwise.
38. Complaints
If you have a complaint about a listing, transaction, seller, buyer, refund or PYN service, please contact:
Please include the relevant order or listing reference where available.
PYN will investigate complaints fairly and may request additional evidence.
Nothing in this complaints process prevents a consumer from exercising statutory rights or seeking independent advice or another remedy available under law.
39. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply.
Where possible, the affected provision will be treated as modified only to the minimum extent necessary to make it lawful and enforceable.
40. No waiver
If PYN does not immediately enforce a right under these Terms, this does not mean that right has been waived.
41. Governing law and courts
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you retain any mandatory protections provided by the law applicable to you and may have the right to bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the United Kingdom where you live.
Business users may be subject to different jurisdiction arrangements where separately agreed.
